About us
The Accelerated Capability Environment is a specialist Interior capability for rapidly testing and developing practical responses to public-safety and security challenges involving data, technology and operational innovation. Its remit is confined to the specialist function assigned to it and does not transfer government-wide digital policy from DSIT.
Who we are
The Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE) is a specialist Interior Office capability for addressing complex public-safety and security challenges where rapid experimentation, data, technology and operational innovation can help identify workable solutions.
ACE can bring together departmental users, operational partners and specialist technical or analytical expertise to define a problem, test approaches in realistic conditions and produce evidence about what should be adopted, procured, scaled, changed or stopped.
Its inclusion in the Interior family does not give ACE a general government technology mandate. Government-wide digital, data, artificial-intelligence, cyber, telecommunications and online-safety policy remains with DSIT.
What ACE does
ACE supports time-bounded problem-solving, prototype and evidence work for challenges within its authorised remit. Work may support policing, borders, security, law-enforcement information or other Interior functions where a specialist innovation approach is appropriate.
Any operational deployment arising from ACE work remains subject to the authority, procurement, security, data, accessibility and service controls that apply to the responsible organisation. ACE experimentation does not itself create a legal power or authorise operational use.
