Personal information charter

How Migration Advisory Committee uses, protects and provides access to personal information.

Migration Advisory Committee handles personal information only where it has an authorised purpose connected with independent evidence and advice on migration matters referred to the Committee or the administration of the organisation.

Information we may hold

The information held depends on the function or service involved. It may include contact information, application or case records, correspondence, identity or status information, professional or regulatory records, complaint information, accessibility requirements and other information needed to carry out an authorised function.

How we use personal information

We use personal information to provide and administer services, carry out policy, regulatory, inspection, operational or public-administration functions, respond to correspondence, manage the organisation and meet legal or official requirements.

The fact that information is technically available on a platform does not by itself authorise its use. Access and use must have a proper purpose and follow the controls that apply to the system and information.

Sharing information

Information is shared only where there is an authorised and necessary reason. Another public body remains responsible for its own records and information-handling arrangements when it is the responsible authority for a service or function.

Your information and access

Service-specific privacy information explains arrangements that apply to the relevant service. Requests for access, correction or another information right should use the route stated in that privacy information or the organisation’s published information-access arrangements.

Keeping information secure

Access to personal information is limited according to official need and appropriate permissions. Migration Advisory Committee applies security, audit, retention, accuracy and records-management controls to its information systems and records.

Complaints and independent oversight

If your concern relates to how a specific service handles information, use the contact or complaint route for that service. Where an independent information-rights or judicial route applies, the relevant public information will explain how to use it.
