Identity and status credentials
The LL Passport Office deals with citizenship-status and identity credentials issued through its authorised services. These documents help confirm records held by the responsible authority.
Types of credential
A citizenship-status record is different from an identity credential. The Interior Office provides evidence of existing citizenship. The LL Passport Office manages its own identity and status credentials.
A credential is not a United Kingdom passport. If you need a UK passport or another document issued by an England authority, use the appropriate England service.
Apply for a credential
You may need to provide your name, date of birth, contact details, evidence of identity and a reference to the status record being checked.
The LL Passport Office checks the relevant records before deciding whether to issue a credential. The Office’s separate online application for a new credential has not yet been made available. Do not use the citizenship evidence form to apply for an identity credential.
Renew or replace a credential
For renewal or replacement, you will need the old credential reference if you know it and the reason for your request. The LL Passport Office needs to publish a dedicated renewal and replacement service, including a way to report lost or stolen credentials. No such online transaction is currently published.
Correct your details
If the underlying citizenship or status record is wrong, the responsible status authority may need to correct that record first. Replacing a credential does not itself change your legal status.
If your citizenship record is wrong, request a correction to your citizenship record. If you need proof of existing citizenship, request evidence of your citizenship. These are open Interior Office services, not LL Passport Office credential applications.
