South Havenstead Police and national policing

South Havenstead Police provides local policing across Havenstead. The National Police Service provides national policing and specialist support across United Hampshire.

South Havenstead Police

South Havenstead Police is the territorial police force for Havenstead. Its officers respond to incidents, investigate crime and work with local communities. Local policing is organised through six Local Policing Areas:

  • Alderstead
  • Brightmere
  • Stonehaven
  • Rosehaven
  • Bridgewell
  • Greenhaven

The Chief Constable has direction and control of the force.

National Police Service

The National Police Service investigates serious and organised crime, deals with national and cross-regional matters and provides specialist police capabilities. It also coordinates national policing support and mutual aid where authorised.

The Commissioner has direction and control of the National Police Service.

Police complaints

The Independent Office for Police Conduct oversees police complaints and investigates matters within its statutory functions. A complaint about police conduct is different from reporting a crime.

Policing in England

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary provides territorial policing in its England force area. Its responsibilities are separate from South Havenstead Police. The National Police Service may assist where the relevant law and operational arrangements permit.

Legislation

The Police Act 2026 establishes the National Police Service and South Havenstead Police. The Police (Mayoral Governance) Act 2026 provides for changes to Havenstead police governance when the relevant statutory transfer takes effect.
