Qualifications and assessment

State Education qualifications are awarded through programmes approved under the State Qualifications Framework. The Department for Education oversees qualifications policy.

Check a qualification

Before enrolling, ask the provider:

  • what qualification or award you will work towards
  • which organisation awards it
  • how it is assessed
  • what you need to complete
  • whether it is recognised outside State Education

A course completion certificate is not always a regulated qualification.

Taking assessments

The provider should explain the assessment method, required evidence, grading or completion criteria and any permitted adjustments.

Ofqual has an independent standards role in the State Education qualifications system. The Standards and Testing Agency supports assessment and testing within its functions.

Get your results or correct a record

Ask the awarding institution about your results, certificate, record correction or an assessment review. It should explain the relevant procedure.

Recognition outside Havenstead

State Education awards are not automatically GCSEs, A levels, UK degrees or externally accredited qualifications. Check whether the receiving employer or institution recognises your award before relying on it for an external application.
