The Department for Culture, Media and Recreation supports culture, heritage, media, public-service media, recreation, civic events and cultural participation across United Hampshire.
Responsibilities
We are responsible for:
- culture, arts, heritage and civic identity
- creative activity and creative sectors
- cultural participation and cultural education where agreed with the Department for Education
- symbols, commemorations and cultural recognition
- media policy and public-service media
- media production and media responsibility
- media literacy where agreed with the Department for Education or Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
- recreation policy, leisure activity and recreational participation
- public events, civic events, ceremonies and festivals
- public programming, event standards and event coordination
- sponsorship and oversight of the National Recreation Service and other bodies within the departmental family

Our priorities are to:
- restore reliable and inclusive public activity, recreation and cultural participation
- support culture, heritage, creative activity and civic identity
- maintain trusted media and public-service media arrangements
- ensure events, ceremonies and recreation are organised safely, consistently and accessibly
- widen opportunities for people to participate in cultural and recreational life
Who we are
We are a ministerial department responsible for culture, media and recreation.
We work with cultural, media and recreation bodies and with other departments where education, online safety, technology, communities or public information overlaps with our remit.
