Citizenship and taking part in public life

Citizenship is a legal status. It is different from joining an activity, applying for a job or being appointed to public office.

Citizenship

The Interior Office administers applications and citizenship records under the British Nationality Act 2026. If you already hold citizenship, you can ask for evidence of your status or for an inaccurate record to be corrected.

See Enter or stay in Havenstead for information about citizenship and immigration permission.

Take part in activities

You do not need to make a general application simply to take part in public activities. Check the rules for the activity you want to join.

Jobs and public appointments have their own application and selection processes. You can find work and get a referral or see the relevant organisation’s recruitment information.

Check or correct a record

Check which citizenship or immigration service to use to find the route for a record correction or evidence of citizenship.

You can request a correction to your citizenship record or request evidence of your citizenship. Both forms are open. For a different citizenship application, find the right citizenship service.

Changing your username or platform role does not change your citizenship.
